ThatSleepGuy Review of the Beanie Sleeper
Before the holidays, I got an email from Ben at beaniesleeper.com asking if I would check out their drug-free sleep product and give it an honest review. I always checked out the website to make sure they aren’t selling some snake-oil supplement, and I have to tell you, I was shocked!
How can something so simple be so practical? Usually, when someone sends me a message wanting me to try something new, I tend to shrug them off until I get my hands on one and try it myself. I have to admit, and I was super excited to try this one out myself!
What is it?
The Beanie Sleeper is a 100% cotton headwrap with a built-in contoured sleep mask. It is super light, washable, and helps you stay warm without overheating with its mesh inner lining.
It is for both men and women and designed to help you sleep better. I didn’t see any children’s sizes, but I don’t know many kids using sleep masks anyway. I have a 14-year-old daughter, and the large fits her just fine.
The Beanie Sleeper fits just like a beanie would, with the addition of a flip-up blindfold. This blindfold is designed for a near blackout experience.
One of my favorite things about this product is that it doesn’t just pull all the way down like you think it would. It stays up high on the back of the neck and lets you stay comfortable in just about every sleep position.
How Does it Work?
Amazingly simple. So simple that I am amazed I don’t see this in every store that sells pillows and bedding sets!
You put it on like a beanie, and you flip down the cover. Simple, right?
This thing is SUPER comfortable. The sleep mask that I currently have has those velcro connectors that wrap around your head to keep it secure. It doesn’t bother me so much, but my wife complains that her hair gets caught up in it. Not with the Beanie Sleeper, since there are no ties or velcro.
Another feature I found useful is that it doesn’t cover your nose when you look at the images on the site. The newer model I have covers your nose and has a spot of contouring around it, so it doesn’t just smush your nose all night.
It is more comfortable than it looks. So much so, I sent them an email back asking where they have been all my life!
My Experience with the Beanie Sleeper
My wife was the first to try it out. I figured this was perfect since she hates her sleep mask I got her for Christmas last year.
Every other weekend, we take turns sleeping in since one of our younger kids likes to wake up early on the weekends. This was her weekend to sleep in.
As any married guy understands that old saying, what’s mine is hers, and what’s hers is hers; you can imagine she has added this to her collection.
Her experience with it was more than positive. She came out of the bedroom with a smile so big, and I knew immediately how she felt.
I tried it out the next morning, and I can see why she loves it! It is incredibly comfortable. If you toss and turn, sometimes, your sleep mask can slide down or slide up. The Beanie Sleeper stays put when you flip the pillow over for the cold side.
The pads for the eyes and the contour over the nose sets this product apart from any old sleep mask. Most masks can feel like it’s squeezing you or gets your hair caught up in it, or you have to keep re-adjusting when you move. Not with the Beanie Sleeper.
About the Beanie Sleeper’s History
After my experience with it, I had to reach back out to Ben and ask how he came up with something simple yet effective.
Ben is a cancer survivor. While going through chemotherapy, it wasn’t easy to get to sleep and stay asleep, with all of the nurses and doctors coming in and out of the room at all times of the day.
The typical sleep masks he used just were not comfortable during his stay. The straps were uncomfortable, and his head stayed cold. He came up with the Beanie Sleeper as a solution.
Ben was able to solve three different problems with the Beanie Sleeper. Darkness, lighter fabric, and keeping warm.
With my experience and my wife, these problems are solved elegantly and comfortably.
